Sick Mama & Sick Baby

Sick Mama + Sick Baby = House In Chaos

Dirk has been a little iffy for the last week.  Thursday he started to run a fever and it kept up through Friday which meant one frazzled mom.  Why frazzled?  Well my little munchkin isn’t so little and when he is sick he wants to be carried around and cuddled(don’t we all?) and I can only keep up for so long before my arms just give. 30 lbs is a very large sack of potatoes- I mean a very cute sack of potatoes- none-the-less – next time you are in the store pick up three of those ten pound babies in your arms and carry them around for a minute. No? Well, just pick them all up for a second.  Then imagine that said cute mass of potatoes are sick and thrashing about before nap time… I have bruises all over my body.  End Sob Story(well, kind of).

On Friday I convinced myself I wasn’t sick. I had a fever.  But well, I can’t take a sick day- so therefore I can’t be sick- totally my train of thought.  It was my mantra.  I AM NOT SICK…. I AM NOT SICK… and I continued with this mantra through the evening even when Gabe was home- we went to the store- had dinner but by 7PM I hit the wall going 80MPH and was down for the count.  So Sound of Music went on, I laid on the couch in the fetal position and only did half of bedtime… I may or may not have muttered while crying that I don’t get a sick day(picture me pathetically(keyword) losing it as I attempt to complete bedtime).  Even so the two other times I was actually bedridden sick since Dirk has been born Gabe stayed home from work- but I didn’t get a sick day.  Instead I cooked for three people, made bottles, kept the family on schedule and did naps/bedtime… so as sweet as the thought of Gabe staying home… it actually meant more work for me- definitely not his intent- its just what happened. SO this time around I was expecting to do the whole shabang again- just not get a sick day/hour/minute. Hence pathetic breakdown.  I told Gabe what I just wrote above and it clicked… literally.

And you know what?

Gabe SWOOPED in and BAM. Mama got a sick day.

Dirk has his first ear infection.  We are both on a ton of medicine and definitely under the weather BUT I got more sleep and rest this weekend than I have in over 9 1/2 months.

Thank you Babe- from the bottom of my heart.  I so dearly appreciated your love and support this weekend.  You are one of a kind : ) and I am proud to call you my husband.

Dirk and I are taking slow walks around the neighborhood today, watching Scooby and munching on snacks working on getting over our fevers. Happy Monday to you all!  Hope you have a great start of the week!

Swinging after the Storm

Dirk and I ventured to the park that is just about a ten minute walk from the house this morning.  Our area was hit by a HUGE monsoon that rocked our house-yet didn’t wake up Dirk- which means that we were looking at cooler temperatures!!! BOOMSHAKALAKA  Boy OH Boy was I not going to miss out on a jaunt to the park- swings- crawling through the grass- inhaling a moundfull of sand and enjoying the muggy 90 degree temperature with my son.  We played for an hour of pure bliss.  Alas, all by ourselves- it was muggy but do-able so where were all the other moms? OH and it was cloudy- and it is never cloudy here so we played our little tushies off. CAN’T WAIT FOR FALL! <3
