Summer Survival: Skincare

·

Goodness gracious- summer is upon us here in the Valley of the Sun!  This past weekend temperatures hit 106 degrees at our house, so long spring, summer is here to stay!

As a mother to a rambunctious two year old and a nine month baby girl it is incredibly important to me to make sure that they are covered-in every sense of the word- head to toe in sunscreen.

EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.

I was invited to an event at the Whole Foods Market Paradise Valley to discuss sun care and summer survival.  Survival is to be taken literally- our summers get into the 120s with the lows in the mid 90s.

Skin cancer runs in my family.  My grandmother and mother are both survivors and just this past Fall I had a tumor removed from my face. You can read about that HERE.  So sun care is an extremely personal topic and one that I don’t take lightly.
I couldn’t agree more!  Whole Foods Market Paradise Valley is diligently working on educating the public on products that can help you keep safe this summer.

Lucky for you(and me) they are having a fabulous  Sun Care 4 Day Promotion – May 23rd to May 26th with 30% off Sun Care products! At the event we were able to try out an assortment of products that fit our daily need living out here in the desert.  Better yet the products are organic, good for your skin, and equally important easy on baby AND toddler sensitive skin.

My son has over 26(dangerous) allergies to foods, 15 environmental allergies, and to top it off he is allergic to the majority of lotions, sunscreens, and body care products on the market.  Being able to find GENTLE and EFFECTIVE products that work for our family has been a struggle to say the least.

I couldn’t be more pleased or thankful for the opportunity to work with a store that takes such pride in their products.  LOCAL products are always important to me.  Living as green as we can is one of our family’s goals.

Goddess Garden Organics is a company founded by a mompreneur who was frustrated that there were no products in the market for little ones that were healthy, organic, and non-irritating.  A mom after my own heart!

Goddess Garden Sunscreens are free of sunscreen chemicals, protecting and nourishing using only the purest organic ingredients! All of the containers are biodegradable, reef safe, the sunscreen is cruelty free, Non-GMO, and completely recyclable.

Calms my mom worries.  Love that my toddler has been wearing this sunscreen and has yet to have an adverse reaction!
Mom: 1.  Allergies: 0.

DeVita Skin Care and Color Cosmetics are vegan AND paraben free!  The moisturizer that we tried was smooth, rich, and made my skin feel divine!  Sometimes you just need to pamper your skin and this is one fabulous way to do so!

The Moisture TINTS had just the right amount of coverage for summer.  I tend to not want a lot of coverage when the temperatures soar into the hundreds.  Typical makeup melts off my face and I look awful within minutes of being outside.  Moisture TINTS will be helping me cover my imperfections-WHILE protecting my skin. WIN-WIN.
Acure is a natural, clinical skin care, body care, and hair care line.  100% natural, fair trade certified organic ingredients, no petrochemicals, sulfate free, paraben free, with no synthetic fragrances.  They focus on driving real results through simple, plant based and food-based ingredients.

What was this mom of two under two most interested in? DRY SHAMPOO.

Acure’s formualtion smelled like heaven.  Verdict?  It did not make my hair feel chalky or give off that dull residue after I applied it.  Tried and true product for any mom out there that needs to shave off a couple of minutes of their morning routine.

Badger Healthy Body Care is a company that pride’s themselves on being 100% natural and is USDA Certified Organic.  We were able to try their sunscreens which went on thick and left a noticeable color difference after they were applied.  Super helpful for families that want to make sure that their little ones are covered head to toe!

My athritic(not even 30 yet) hands loved, loved, loved this balm.

Creamy, cozy goodness for my aching hands.

SHOP LOCAL

A shopping trip at Whole Foods Market Paradise Valley should always consist checking out the local fare that they have for that week!  We go through a container of salsa a week and LOVE that we can shop local.

Local beer? Don’t mind if I do!

Our Morning Routine{Toddler Edition}

Nuby Comb and Brush Set

Check list that is helping our toddler figure out what we have to do next.  He LOVES crossing it off and I love that we no longer have a battle royale to get going in the morning. Please note: We always wash our hands… so I just include that in the “potty” category.

We are currently in the trenches of potty-training.  We have been working on this for over a year and there is finally light at the end of the tunnel.  Mistakes are few and far between- but I still feel like we need to use some type of pull-ups throughout the day and night.  Baby steps indeed.  I had always heard that boys were hard to potty train.  I agree with that notion whole-heartedly.

Both Em, our nine month old, and The Toddler brush their teeth in the morning.  I assist with both of them.  Good oral hygiene is pivotal-start them young! (Humble brag- I will be 30 in November and have yet to get one cavity).

Brushing their hair.  Both Em and The Toddler get their hair brushed in the morning.  They giggle and squirm around and after I am done The Toddler insists on brushing my hair.  I can use all the help I can get at 6AM so I oblige.

I love how soft the bristles are on the brush and the comb will surely come in hand when Em’s hair gets a little longer.  She is lucky that she has her father’s thick locks!  A year ago this would have been used on our little man-he had such long hair- I couldn’t part with his baby hair until he just turned two. Sappy Momma.

I would definitely recommend this adorable set! Love how it helps give us a routine!
Available at these fine retailers:
  • Baby Depot at Burlington
This Comb and Brush Set by Nuby was designed for baby.  The nylon bristles on the brush are soft and gentle to baby’s tender scalp.  Both the brush and comb are sized for baby’s needs, but are comfortable for an adult to use.

Two Babies, Two & Under: The Messy Files

Preparation is Key.

Pivotal.

A Daily Necessity.

Enter Stylish Baby Wipes.

You are now entering The Messy Files. Please be warned that you are about to witness copious amounts of cuteness covered by unmentionable amounts of mystery goo and residue.  You have been warned.

Adorable. But messy.

This little lady loves to feed herself these days.  So while I prefer to not snap pictures when we are eating out in public(because I am trying to work my mom magic and not leave a mess) please be assured that this is how she looks. AT.EVERY.SINGLE.MEAL. Stylish baby wipes at the ready? YES PLEASE.

She doesn’t like being dirty. I am sure as soon as she gets the hand to mouth key down, she will be a much happier camper.

Little Lady. Clean-up. Aisle Em.

Noodle Head.

 The Peach Festival.

Dirt? Yes.

Peach Juice? Yes.

Diaper Changes? Most definitely!

NomNomNom. Sticky cuteness.

Dirty Hands? Definition of understatement.

Ever fall in a peach field after demolishing a peach? Well just in case you were wondering… dirt everywhere, skinned knees, and stickyness galore.  The Toddler was all too pleased that I was able to wipe off the gunk fast! Loved that I didn’t have to search under the stroller or in my diaper bag for my wipes!

Even parents need wipes, sometimes.

After a full day at The Peach Festival the wipes came in hand after I loaded up the car- apparently even Mom’s hands get dirty… LOVED that this clutch attached directly onto my stroller handlebar.  The wipes are in reach immediately when I need them!

The Peach Festival 2014

The Peach Festival will surely be an annual tradition. The picking and tasting was hilarious… both little ones enjoyed fresh peaches right off the tree.  Don’t worry- they put an extra pound on at the scales no matter what.

After picking our batch we headed off for some breakfast treats, a train ride, slides, bouncing, and riding the rides.  The Toddler was BEYOND exhausted when we left- four hours of hilarious memories.

I am very thankful to be able to spend Mother’s Day Weekend with my favorite people.  We had a family coffee date Sunday at Starbucks.  Followed by cuddles, snuggles, park dates, and The Toddler’s favorite- Chipotle.  With allergies to over 26 foods we are hard pressed to find a restaurant that he can eat at… we are lucky that he loves Chipotle as much as us-and how healthy it is for us.  This is the first time that Em joined in on the fun- HILARIOUS.  We ordered four burrito bowls. Suffice it to say all of them were demolished, save for Sweet Em’s-she has about half left.

Thankful for my sweet family.  Feeling very blessed.

Hope you had a wonderful weekend!
