Second Birthday

Dear Emma Marie,

You are now two years old and already a little lady.  You bring a purse with you, wherever you go.  It is full of fun treats and those fake credit cards(that come from offers in the mail).  You love explaining everything you have in there.  Every piece has a purpose.

You take your time eating and are meticulous with manners.  You say excuse me for everything you should. You are adamant that you are just as big as your brother and that we should treat you as such.

Thus the potty training.  You are one proud little girl.  We are very proud of you too!  You tell us and run to the bathroom yourself.  And you always wash your hands, “All by myself mom,” after.

You clearly have an interest in what you wear and will demand certain clothing items.  You are obsessed with pockets of which it is hard to find little girl’s clothes that actually contain real ones-not the sew on fabricated ones.

You prefer your hair down but will relent to a braid or ponytail if properly enticed.  You can brush your own hair and get on(mostly) your own clothes.

You LOVE to sing songs.  You continuously surprise me with singing renditions of songs we have not heard in weeks.

You still really enjoy your naps!  1-2 hours perhaps three if you are teething.  You turn on all the fans, use the restroom, and then curl up in my lap.  You pass out in my arms within minutes all the while twirling your hair and sucking your thumb.  I lay you down in your crib with your favorite puppies and slip out of your room.

Favorite Food? Chipotle bowls, chicken kabobs with onion, and milkshakes.  Goodness do you LOVE a good milkshake.

You have a love for all animals, but that little sparkle in your eye gets bright when you are lucky enough to be in the presence of a puppy.  Goodness gracious do you love dogs.

Barring anything truly traumatic happening in the next couple of months we hope to get a dog of our own.  I know that you will take pleasure in helping with the dog and that you will in turn have a lifelong friend.

You are kind to people that you meet.  But speak up if someone is hurting your brother.  You are a fiery pistol that will not let him get hurt.  Incredibly brave for you to be so steadfast with your feelings.  Once or twice at the park you put yourself in-between Raymond and the Mean One and told them to, “Go away, leave us alone!” and pointed for them to return from whence they came from.

Don’t worry.  He will never forget that you are there for him.  He gladly takes your hand whenever something makes you nervous and gives you a hug saying, “It’s okay Em.  You are going to be okay.”

The greatest gift we could ever give you was each other.

You love building, drawing, blowing bubbles, but your favorite is acting like a DINOSAUR.  Whenever we make believe(wherever we are) you proudly announce that you are a dinosaur and RAWR- stomp-and snarl.

Well my little dinosaur, we are so utterly proud of the little lady you are becoming.

With all our love,

Em: 12 Month Update

Dear Sweet Baby Girl,

You are now ONE.

One whole year has blown by.  You are a bundle of endless energy.  The only time you slow down is to run over and tackle me for cuddles and hugs.

Our little spitfire- you tackle your brother constantly, always with hugs and kisses, but still you can take him down faster than a football player.  You and your brother “talk” all day and play side-by-side.  You both prefer to swing next to each other and on the off chance that one of you wakes before the other? You both wander around calling for the other.  I love how much you love each other.

You love to explore and most of the time you are off on your own and will just glance over your shoulder to smile at me and continue on your way.  If ever something scares you, you run toward me and bury your face in my as you attempt to climb up me.

You can run now.  Sometimes you run too fast and you literally somersault over yourself and then get up and run some more. You are fearless when it comes to pain and rarely will there ever be something that brings you to tears… which is scary seeing as how many bruises are starting to pop up as you are now climbing furniture.  Chairs, rocking chairs, tables, boxes… you name it and you’ve attempted to climb it.  You have no idea how many more gray hairs I have because of your fearlessness.

You love to watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.  You will “read” books on your own and pick out your favorites to bring over to me.  You love to figure out how to do/fix/find each item for activities.  You love running into your room and tackling your giraffe and you squeal with joy when you get him.

You stack blocks, carry around socks, and shoes- they are your favorite.  And you ask for things that you want by showing us what you want.

30 inches
12 Month Onesies & Clothes
18 Month Sleepers
Size 4/5 Shoes
4 Teeth
A TON of Hair

Favorite Food: Blueberries, Chipotle, Waffles, Frozen Yogurt

You LOVE to go to the zoo and see all of the animals- that is only trumped by your love for the splash pad. The zoo has both and it is your jam.  We go three times a week right now and you are the one running around getting soaked.  You LOVE water!

I can not wait to see what this next year brings!

Love you so much baby girl.

Love always,

Family Cake Smash: Em Turns One

Sweet Em loved hearing us sing “Happy Birthday” again on her birthday weekend with just family.  She relished in trying to blow out the candle with The Toddler.  So thankful that we are starting off her first year with everyone healthy!

Sweet Em’s First Birthday

This weekend we were thrilled to be able to celebrate our little girl turning one!

The Toddler LOVED every single balloon and is still willing the deflated balloons to keep floating as we speak(type).  Sometimes I forget how truly wonderful something is… the last time we had balloons in the house was last fall for The Toddler’s second birthday(nine months ago) and that my dear friends is just too darn long.  Note to self to break out the helium tank and blow up a balloon every once in awhile.

Ms. Em is certainly shy when it comes to crowds but was more than thrilled to help open up her treasures from those that attended.  We are definitely blessed and are incredibly grateful for all of her new toys and clothes. She is one lucky lady!

The Toddler was more than happy to “help” with gifts and to “test” all of them for his little sister. This morning he poured me some hot coffee over and over again from the tea kettle- I can take all the caffeine I can get(even if it is make believe).

Cheesy smile before the cake smash!

Family Photo(minus The Toddler who was off gallivanting with other toddlers)

Sweet Em was definitely not quite sure what to think… she was clearly concerned with the amount of attention she was getting. My usual rough and tumble girl who gladly sits in sand boxes, smears herself with sidewalk chalk, and tackles sprinklers head-on was definitely weary about the mess that the frosting made.

The “Aftermath”.

We are so incredibly grateful for those near and far that wished our baby girl a happy first  birthday!

Thank you for all of the well wishes!

Our little lady LOVED every second of her birthday!
