Last time I told the Hubs on the phone that we were expecting. This time I wanted it to be better, special. I was feeling off the entire first week of December and thought for sure I was pregnant. I even sent the Hubs and Toddler out to pick up some treats at the store because I didn’t have the energy to do-anything. When they were off I took a test expecting to immediately see the sign + + meaning we were expecting. Last time the image appeared within seconds so after staring at it for awhile I sighed and thought, ” Must still be feeling bad from the stomach flu.” Well, I was on the phone with my mom and started cleaning up the bathroom about 30 minutes later and I grabbed the test to throw it away….
TWO LARGE + + SIGNS ON THE STICK!
I knew it! I started jumping up and down and laughing…. then the rush was on because I knew I wanted to tell the Hubs but he would home soon and well, Math was not my forte that night(it usually is) and I guessed due date of September 2013- wrong!
BUT- as soon as he walked through that door-mind you with my diet coke and goodies…. he stood there in shock saying “Really? Really???” with a big ole smile on his face. Hugs, Kisses and exclamations of D being a big brother were made and then we called our immediate family. Screams, tears and happy dances!

The Little Green Pouch & How it Eased my Allergy Woes
When I first found out I was pregnant I had grand ideas and goals about healthy food for our family. One major goal would be that our family meals would be shared and eaten by all. No separate kid meals. This would hopefully help our future children develop a taste for healthy meals with lots of nutritious ingredients. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case because our Toddler has a nerve-wracking amount of food allergies. So much so, that I have sworn off new foods for the next few months. I carry medicine with us at all times in case he accidentally ingests one.
Knowledge is power. Tremendous power. Thankfully I can still give him all of his daily nutritional needs right at home.
From the start I made and prepared all of the baby food I could for his meals at home. Knowing what is going into his little body gives me peace of mind. The only time that our little one had anything else would be when we were out running an errand. We bought Organic Baby Food Pouches made with simple ingredients. Even so, he had reactions. At a dark moment in time, full of self-doubt as a new mom I saw one of my dear friends pin The Little Green Pouch on Pinterest.
My first thought? FINALLY! Someone made a product that will work for us!
Does it work for us? YOU BET!
Seriously Mom? More pictures?
Now I no longer scour the back of Organic Pouches- I make my own! The process is simple and easy- just like making all of his first foods when he was a Baby. Buy Organic Food. Steam/Cook/Bake & Puree with water until you have the right consistency. Easy-peasy.
Some simple combinations-
The Mover: Prunes, Corn & Squash
The Sweet Treat: Blue Berries, Peaches & Raspberries
The Brain: Sweet Potato & Brown Rice
Best Sweet Potato Breakfast.
I am thoroughly enjoying the fact that Sweet Potato, his favorite first food, is now back in our weekly rotation. I had tried baking it and giving it to him in strips and cubes and he would not touch it- not one single bite. NOW- he sucks down one of the Sweet Potato Little Green Pouches without batting an eye. Goodness gracious, you have no idea how relieved I was. To you it may just be food. But to me? It was a food-a very healthy one-that he is not allergic to. WIN in the Mom Department!
The Little Green Pouch has eased this New-Mom’s allergy woes. And now that #2 is on the way? More will be ordered. ASAP.
The Little Green Pouch
At the top of the pouch by a zipper seal that can be securely closed. Seriously easy and Toddler proof. My little one was not able to open it with his “Hulk” hands.
The pouches are made of durable, BPA-free & phthalate-free plastic. They are built to withstand those beatings that only young children can give & (after cleaning) take some more. A must, in my opinion.
The pouches are dishwasher safe-just prop them upside down over the tongs on the top shelf. For best use, rinse all the homemade goodness out of the pouch & spout before running the cycle. The pouches have successfully made it through our old dishwasher five times. They look good as new!
Fill up a bunch of pouches with your home-made purees & pop them in the freezer. You can defrost them in warm water when you are ready to enjoy. Or, pack them in your lunch in the morning-they’ll be ready for squeezing by the afternoon. I plan on purchasing more so I can do just that… just like I did with D’s first foods. One night in the kitchen and a month worth of baby food!
The size & suppleness of our reusable baby food pouch makes it great for use by those darling little hands. Our Toddler loves them!
Now thanks to the generous folks at The Little Green Pouch you have an opportunity to win a Four-Pack of the fabulous pouches.

Blame it on pregnancy- but my nose picks up any and all smells-the good, the bad, and the atrocious. I smelled gas coming from the garage and called the non-emergency police number to get the local fire departments number. Apparently, you are supposed to call 9-1-1 under those circumstances(just in case this happens to you). Within 30 seconds(I kid you not) the local fire department rolled up to our house and out popped five firemen. They scoured the garage and our house… our water heater was leaking gas. After a free stop over from the Gas Company(amazing response time as well) they turned off our gas and notified us that there was not a fix to be made.
We are in the market for a new water heater… YEP. Another month, another appliance. BUT- mind you, this could have been worse. So instead of the epic meltdowns of an extremely budget-conscious family as I have done in the past- I am going to not dwell on the money, but the company. The response time for both the Fire Department and the Gas Company was amazing! They are my heroes. Calls have been made, supervisors notified, that they have some great men among them.
I called our local handyman and he is working with us to put in a new one bright and early tomorrow morning. One night without hot water is fine by me. Right now I am thankful. Truly thankful.
AND- I am off to my Doctor’s with the Toddler to get a full work-up! Excited and nervous-rightly so with the Toddler. Either way it will be interesting.
Thank you to all the brave men and women out there that run toward danger to help. Your courage and sacrifice mean more than you will ever know.

Our old TV stand was a small Ikea coffee table I bought when I first started teaching… six years later and we proudly sit our TV on an actual TV Stand. Paitence.
Fast forward a month- and another Pinterest Idea- a chalkboard table top for kid’s to play with in their room/playroom- and I find myself up late one night- painting the whole black stand gray-and then adding two coats of gray chalkboard paint to the top. Can’t wait to show you the progress of D’s Big-BOY room- but you will have to wait just a bit longer : ).
