Nuby’s Squirmy the Twiddle Worm Review

Squirmy the Twiddle Worm Review

Em LOVES this little bug.

The bright colors, multiple textures, and winding natures help with a teething baby AND one that is into exploring their surrounding.  I really appreciate that Squirmy helps with Em’s dexterity.  Over the last month Em has grown mighty fond of this little guy.  She laughs at it as she swings Squirmy above her head and twists the shapes around.

Em & Squirmy

Em

As she gets older Em is becoming pickier in the toys and teethers that meet her approval.  Not that much fun when you have a baby item that your little one outgrows too fast.  I am thankful that this little bug has continued to charm Em-each and every day.

Squimy the Twiddle Worm is the perfect size for our trips to the park-and accompanies Em in the stroller as an added little joy!

Squirmy the Twiddle Worm is designed to soothe and comfort teething toddlers. The multiple teething surfaces twist and turn, encouraging the development of your baby’s hand and eye coordination! Squirmy is perfectly sized for little hands to hold.

Friday Favorites {1st Edition}

Friday Favorites

Bear Down ARIZONA- Arizona Basketball #1 Seed- BOOM GOES THE DYNAMITE! They play today at 11AM MST-BTFD.

My tournament bracket is actually looking really good so far! I only missed two games yesterday-and I had two of the upsets matched correctly! Hoping my streak will continue.

Three cups of coffee in the morning- these two-and coffee makes getting up at 4AM & 6AM every day much easier!

Goggles and a snack break.  This kid.

Spending hours outside- The Toddler plays in the sand box, baby pool, and the big toy as we just take in the sights and sounds. Lovely way to spend an afternoon.

Little Ms. Personality. She slammed her fists down on the counter demanding what her brother had… hilarious. She was very pleased with herself.

The Toddler makes it his daily mission to make Em happy.  He carried this heavy bin over for them to play with in the morning. I love how much they love each other!

The Toddler is into climbing all sorts of things now-things much bigger than him-and ladders taller than me! He has even attempted completing the monkey bars- scary but he did get to the second one. Thankful I still have fast reflexes.

Driving the fire truck

I know our days at the park are numbered… so we are going to go as often as we can!

Little Em- as feisty as ever!

Our latest treasure! Now that we are going into the summer months and our AC Bill will be in the hundreds we will not be buying anymore beauties-saving our pennies so that we can have a cool house- so I am thoroughly enjoying my last “fun” purchase. LOVE.

I have two contracts to complete this weekend-plan on watching some quality basketball-hit the zoo and splash pad-and finish up some projects that I had started over the last couple of months- seal grout-finish grout in bathroom- finish re-finishing our bathroom cabinets-tag baby items for consignment sale.

Don’t forget to enter the two giveaways that are going on! Low entries!

Do you have any fun plans for the weekend?

Our Blissful Bedtime Routine #HuggiesTester

Our bedtime routine has been our saving grace.  Early on, with our first little one we found that if he recognized when bedtime begins he was much more relaxed, and all around a happier little baby.  At just two months old we started introducing a bedtime routine.  One that worked for our little family.  The Toddler, no longer a baby, still benefits from having a routine he can count on- one that guarantees he gets the much needed 11-12 hours of sleep a night.

When Em was born, I planned to implement the same strategy for bedtime.  The need for routine and recognition of familiar tasks is really apparent, even at such a young age.  When she was two months old we once again started her on her own bedtime routine.  She thrived!  From being a newborn up til two months it felt like mere chaos.  Lack of sleep for everyone, no sense of what time it was, nor when she actually was “supposed” to go down to sleep at night.  She would nurse for hours at night. Hours. Literally. From 6PM-10PM I was the sole caretaker from a little one that had no idea it was nighttime and that Mom was exhausted AND needed some sleep.

Enter the bedtime routine.

5PM: Em receives “dinner” which now includes a mixture of solid food along with a nursing session. After getting cleaned up, we have quiet playtime, the lights in the house are dimmed-in our case-we only keep on a few lamps.

6PM: Em and The Toddler head upstairs.  They “play” with each other as the bath is drawn, toys are put away from the day, and pajamas are laid out.

6:30PM: Bathtime.  The Toddler is in his half of the regular bath, playing with his toys, and Em is in her whale tub right next to him.  They giggle and share toys back and forth.  One of the best moments of the day.  They truly enjoy being in the water AND love being with each other.

7PM: Em recieves a calming baby massage with lotion, gets her Size 4 Huggies Snug & Dry Diapers on, and her pajamas.  The cool mist humidifier is turned on-a desert must-have(plus safe white noise). The small night light is turned on for me to be able to see as she has her last nursing session for the night.

7:15PM: Night light is off and Em is out. She sleeps until 4AM.

Em is seven months old and still wakes once for a feeding.  She is not picky about much in her life, save for bedtime, and being wet. Goodness Gracious does she HATE to be wet!

Em is 16lbs of pure sweetness.  We choose to put her in a Size Up of diapers at night because then she gets 8-9 hours of sleep in a row.  BIG DEAL.  Before we started using Huggies Snug & Dry Diapers with the SureFit Design she would leak through her diaper in the middle of the night.  Around 1AM every night she would wake-up soaked and pissed.

My mom brain may have been fried at that time from a complete lack of sleep- BUT I did remember that The Toddler was a heavy wetter too.  He went from waking soaked in the middle of the night to sleeping 12+ hours a night consistently- as soon as we went a SIZE UP in our Huggies Diapers.

I don’t know why I didn’t remember that sooner… so many sleepless nights with a cranky, wet baby.

Our bedtime routine made it possible for Em and The Toddler to fall asleep right away- and stay asleep.  And with the addition of moving Em a Size Up in diapers? She went from sleeping 4 Hours a stretch to 7-8 Hours a stretch!  I kid you not.

If your little one wakes up in the middle of the night because they are a heavy wetter- THIS IS YOUR SAVING GRACE. Go out-right now and pick-up a pack! This method has not failed me with my two little ones and I want you to take the Huggies Challenge!

Heroes of the City: Review & GIVEAWAY

The Toddler Loves CARS! That is no secret. Whether it’s a yellow Lamborghini, a wooden dump truck or Mater…he loves them. So when we received the Heroes of the City package in the mail he was giddy. The Toddler makes this ,”Hoot, hoot , whoot , ho!” sound when he gets really happy and excited. He made this sound for the entire first minute of the DVD after we turned on the TV- AGAIN when we showed him the book AND YET AGAIN with Paulie Police Car and Harry Hotrod die-cast toys.  He has kept his “presents”- the two cars- by his side ever since.  They travel to the park, the backyard sandbox and of course tub time!

We had The Toddler watch a few episodes before we read the book or gave him the cars just to give him some reference (and for me to do the voices somewhat justice). I was surprised by the show and pleasantly so. It’s not a fast, rock music enhanced, need for speed show like many out there. Heroes is easy to watch and calming with well thought out characters. There is not a fixed antagonist and protagonist role; It’s a community where characters can make mistakes- but they are not inherently bad. They’re friends that learn from their experiences. A great tool for a parent gearing their toddler up for a social world.
The Toddler clutched his toy Paulie and Harry cars while watching Calamity Crow getting into trouble with his vintage movie camera. They are smaller than I expected which makes them easily held everywhere our Toddler goes. He would “drive” them around squealing “WEEEHOO, WEEHOO” in a very British sounding siren the rest of the day. Don’t worry, he washed them off at the end of the day because…you guessed it, they joined him in the tub.

I read the book that night with The Toddler snuggled right up to me in his reading corner. The first page was a map like a picture of the city with a “Where’s Calamity Crow” search. The Toddler loved the pictures, seeing all the characters he watched earlier, so much so he got up and grabbed his Paulie and Harry cars. He was engaged in the story line and really liked seeing more characters highlighted. At the end our little boy said, “Nite, nite!” to the book, I closed it and then he said, “Another.” I told him ok and to pick out a new book. He then tapped the Heroes of the City book and smiled.

That is what we call Toddler Approved.
P.S. The last page of the book had the city map but Calamity Crow is not in the same spot as before…so a bonus Where’s Calamity Search (Parents need to get a little challenge from children’s’ books too).

The App

The Toddler has never been allowed to touch our iPad. He knows that fire and brimstone will rain down if he decided to take the iPad for a spin. It’s an expensive tool we parents use to check email, keep track of banking, set a schedule that we can then immediately update our spouses calendar, check Facebook, tweet, catch up on Big Bang episodes after bedtime…and I’m not helping my case. I don’t trust my son to not break expensive, breakable things in a Hulk like manner. I’m starting to get use to him being mature enough for big boy toys and the Heroes of the City App has helped.

The Toddler’s FAVORITE Game

Puzzle Fun

Driving a police car!

Help save the city and put out fires!

Choo Choo Heaven

We started trying to get D to use the potty more and sometimes it can be a challenge to get him to commit the time to just try. One instance I knew he had to go but just wanted to go back outside and play. I remembered  about our new  App and quickly grabbed it before The Toddler stood up. I opened it and started to look through the games with him and we first selected Whack-a-mole. I had to keep telling The Toddler to gently tap the moles and he did great! He kept giggling as the moles made funny faces and the fireworks after each level. Then came Calamity Crow Canon blast game-He loved making Calamity Crow fly and bounce off the trampolines!
He had finished on the potty but did not want to leave. He was having too much fun with the App and I only had to remind him to be gentle a few times.

Since the inaugural spin with the App during potty-training we have used the App for working on The Toddler’s dexterity, his spatial awareness, and slowly learning about technology.  As a former teacher, I definitely think this App is worth your time and attention.  I continue to be impressed each time we sit down to play!
