Weekend Update

The Toddler

Ms. Em

Coffee and these two make every morning worth it. I’m not a morning person, but it is hard to be cranky when they are just so happy!

Dressed “Up” for a picnic at the park with local moms!

Was a big event and my two little ones were able to get fluoride treatments for free, paint, make their own custom picture frames and play on the big toy. I completely contribute the fact that at 29 I still do not have cavities with fluoride treatments and oral health care routines.

The Toddler won this set of two oven mits and an apron.  He LOVES helping me out in the kitchen and I can’t wait to see him in this.

We enjoyed a couple hours of back yard fun on Saturday morning. Watering cans, using the hose, playing on the big toy.  Hilariously good fun.  I was able to sit and enjoy two cups of coffee in my swimsuit! If you live somewhere with snow, don’t hate me… it will be in the 100s here from April-October.

Very thankful that I got to see some of my best friends this weekend!  They came over and we talked for a couple hours- enjoying wine and bubbly. Ten years of friendship- Love them.

Our backyard.

On Sunday morning we went to the Zoo.  The splash pads are now on for the summer season and The Toddler could not have been happier!  We went right away and were thankful that we packed a second outfit for him to wear.  After going to go see his favorite statues, play on the play grounds, check out the monkeys, ducks, and angry geese(seriously, hiss at someone your own size) we made it back to the splash pad for round two.

The face I get when I say “smile”.

Loved our little weekend.

Hope you have a fabulous week! Any plans?
Do you have a membership to your local zoo?

Nuby Teething Blankie Review

Nuby Teething Blankie

As Em learns to manipulate the world around her she is enjoying more complex toys!  I have yet to meet a baby that does not love a toy that crinkles… seriously, what is it about that noise and sensation?  Well, this blankie has a variety of fabrics, with varying textures that she just loves to have in the car.  She has a soft, small blankie for comfort in the car and this teething blankie from Nuby for when she is active and teething.

Don’t let that smile fool you.  She is a little(adorable) teething monster these days!  Both of her bottom teeth were in before she was six months old and now the process of cutting her upper teeth has begun. OH JOY.

Let’s just say that having a teething toy like this has come in hand in the car when Ms. Em gets CRANKY. She thrashes it around, noms on it, and runs the fabric through her fingers(the crinkly part) over and over.

She is just beginning to figure out that there is a part of the toy that squeaks- which is delightful and surprising to her!

Happy Baby-Happy Mom

Check out those ribbon edges- the flower petals-and the colorful chew rings!

Mastering the car trip. One terrible tooth at a time!

As a parent I can truly appreciate a product that has multiple purposes AND can grow with my child.

The Nûby™ Teething Blankie is designed to comfort and soothe your toddler through the teething process. The multiple teething surfaces on each corner allow your baby to chew and cut their first teeth, relieving sore and sensitive gums. The blanket crinkles and squeaks with a gentle squeeze of the soft fun characters and helps stimulate your baby’s senses and imagination.

Nature’s Sleep Slipper Review & GIVEAWAY

After a night of little sleep- normal these days- I wake up and slap these babies on.  I throw on my robe and cautiously walk down the stairs in my mom-daze.  As I get ready for the day, throw open the window curtains, turn on the coffee maker that my lovely husband prepped, and check out the calender I try to take in the quiet.  The stillness of the house.

For it is 5:30AM.  The house will come alive in a matter of minutes.  My seven month old will wake happily before 6AM.  The Toddler will begin to stir before 7AM.  For the next 12-13 hours we will play, create, and learn together.

As bedtime nears for the little ones I once again don the robe and slippers.  Seeking comfort, relaxation, and a bit of peace.  My feet ache from a day full of chasing the babies, park visits, and the usual mom schedule.  I love our day to day.

My husband has owned a dark blue pair of these slippers for the last four years.

At first he joked it was because we have scorpions.  And WE DO have a ton of scorpions that have made their way into our house-from one way or another.  Wearing these has given him a little comfort in knowing that he could smash one of those nasty little buggers without even knowing- much better than the laissez-faire way I approached the situation.  “If I get stung, I get stung”.

Well, after three years of living here we have had no less than nine surprise encounters.  I count my diligence and sight for not ever accidentally running into one- I spotted seven of them before I literally stepped on them.  But now that I have this light blue pair of MATCHING slippers I can walk in my mom-zombie state with just a little more reassurance.  Desert living is not for the faint of heart people.
Comfort is key. Seriously, why did I wait so long to get a pair?

Scorpion Smusher

Check out that light tan carpet(that we didn’t pick out)! Perfect color for the scorpions in our area. They ARE that color.

Game of chance- Meet Slipper.
Now you get a chance to enjoy your own little slice of heaven!

Nature’s Sleep is giving away a set of slippers to one of my readers!

How a Little Booster Seat Saved Mealtime for The Toddler

    Nuby Booster Seat Review

    The Nuby Booster Seat

The Toddler outgrew his high chair(more like broke the beam-he was ten lbs under the weight limit) and we moved him to just the regular kitchen chairs.  He loved being a big boy at the table with us! The only problem was that his elbows kept getting caught on the table and he would spill an exceptional amount of food and water on himself AND our light beige carpet. Who puts light carpet in a dining room?!? Not I!

    Happy Little Man

When the booster seat arrived I secured the straps on his usual chair and he actually squealed with glee!  He was so darn excited to have a “special” chair like his little sister.  I hadn’t thought of the fact that his little sister had her own high chair and that maybe it hurt his feelings?

Well, suddenly he was up at the table-at our level.  He had his own special chair!

He no longer spills his cup all over himself by accidentally hitting the edge of the table with his elbow.  Our carpet is looking markedly better now that there isn’t a ton of food landing under the table- there is still some to be honest-we are working on being less messy-it is a continuous work in progress.

Meal time at our house is pretty priceless these days!  Em in her high chair and The Toddler in his booster seat.  They are both stare at each other and “talk” to each other throughout the meal. Love how this little addition made meal times cleaner, easier, and albeit happier!

The Nûby™ Booster Seat is safe, durable and strong. It features a wide sturdy base, and subtle contours that are comfortable and stylish. It comes equipped with safety straps that can be attached to most chairs. Holds up to 65 pounds!

    Our House: Downstairs Update

Decoration Update: Above the Cabinets.  Purple Vases-two painted from Goodwill, large purple vase from family, wreath-Goodwill, letter “N” from Ross, Plates-Goodwill, Candle Sticks & Candles-Garage Sales, Blue Cast Iron Pot-Gift from dear friends(we do use it), Ivy-Garage Sale, Brown Coffee Maker from family.

I still am in awe with how bright our kitchen is after re-doing all of our cabinets! LOVE. 40+ hours of hard work at 7/8 Months pregnant? Didn’t love. But worth it. Eventually I want to replace the oven with a flat-top white one-but it still works and I really can’t make myself pay money to replace a perfectly(ugly) stove.

Spray painted pitcher from Target on clearance.

    Yes. Yes. Yes.

Love hydrangeas, spray painted my red lamp to match our new “decor”, lovely silver bowl from family, oil dispenser used as a dish-soap dispenser.

Clock: Target, Cake Tray-Target. Candle sticks-spray painted finds from Goodwill and family. Candle sticks from Goodwill-flower pot from family.

Re-furbished Mirror-spray painted white with green chalk paint. Plan on changing the saying a couple times a year and using it for parties!

Photo & Art Display- using shelves from Ikea and frames from Ikea and Goodwill.

Baskets: Target. Goods: Family, Spray painted finds from Goodwill, Garage Sales.

Wreath: Target. Tea Cups: Family. Bowls: Family.

Painted the trim of an old board from teaching, made the garland from scraps of paper after The Toddler’s first birthday, painted with leftover chalk paint.  Use during parties!

    Soap Dispenser: DIY.

    Switched to-

Then I switched back to the original lamp shade and used the purple one in Ms. Em’s room.  Didn’t quite fit in.  Toys are color-coded-blue: Toddler, purple: Baby. Yes- I have Easter decorations out already. Rocking chair: Solid Oak-$20 at Garage Sale-LOVE.

Mirror used to be black-spray painted metallic silver.  Printed out these myself and made the garland from washi tape and jute string.

Handmade sign: I love you because… Spray painted vase. Antique piece of furniture from family.

    Mirror: Solid Oak from Goodwill.

Ikea table. Solid wood and took nearly an hour for me to put together. Fits perfectly.  Working on getting a tray to put underneath for extra storage!

Candle Sticks: Ross. Flowers: Joann Fabric. Silver Kettle: Goodwill. Painting: Joann Fabric.

    Switched to-

Table: Ikea Hack from college-that has been painted three times. Chairs: Ikea. Bench: Ikea. Bins: Target. Pillows: Costco. Lamp: Ikea.

Target Find. One of my very favorite sayings. Ever.

Vases: Spray painted. First Key to our Home: Pinterest Project. Books: Our favorites. Owl Art: Pinterest Project. Candles: From our engagement. Copper trunk: family.

    New Rug-
New rug from Target: Working on saving up for some new flooring and this will help mask the high traffic area from the garage.

Almost every piece in our house has a story and is well loved.  We go Goodwill hunting probably three times a year and hit garage sales about twice a year.  The thrill of the hunt and saving our family much-needed money makes waiting for(sometimes years) a piece I would like, worth it!

In a perfect world?  We would have light granite counter-tops, hardwood floors, real wood blinds, sunshades on every window, and a large security door.  Those are wishes that might now be granted.  But I am content with the stage that our house is.  It feels like home, warm, us.
