Now that Emma Marie is two and is ALL about having an opinion of her own(hello toddlerdom) she excitedly picked out Scooby Doo as her costume of choice for this Halloween. Adorable? YES. Scooby Doo is an old time favorite at our house and I am so thrilled that from the time she picked a costume out, cough cough August, cough cough, that she has been steadfast in her ways that she will be trick or treating in this fabulous costume. Here is one very EASY way to compliment the Scooby Doo in your life.
-Baggy Green V-Neck Shirt
-Brown Flare Leg Pants
-Messy Hair Don’t Care
The outfit cost under ten dollars as ALL of it was purchased from Goodwill. Shaggy truly does love Scooby Doo and Emma Marie is just smitten that she will be accompanied by someone in character.
Pretty Darn Priceless
Do you dress up? Did your parent dress up with you growing up?
My family dressed up every year, all of us, so it just feels right continuing the tradition. Plus who doesn’t love the light in your kid’s eyes when they see you in rare form(playing dress up in public).
Check out my DIY Star Wars Mom Hack for another option this Halloween.

My love for Star Wars runs deep. I definitely love the lessons you can learn from the story-line and can not wait to share those with my kids once they are older. Sharing how a few items in your closet can make for a QUICK & EASY costume this Halloween.
Raymond chose to be a Stormtrooper this Halloween… or at least that is the game plan.
Three year olds and their ideas…
Han Solo Costume
-Red Tape(electrical works nicely)
-White Button Down Shirt
-Black Vest(or Blue)
All of these essentially give you the chance to be a beloved hero and all around great guy for Halloween. My son makes believe he is ALL types of characters from Star Wars(reads books, plays with LEGO Bricks, has watched Episode One). I play Jedi Knights, Sith Lords, and Han Solo regularly.
The vest SHOULD be a black one- but we live in Arizona and multiple vest purchases are not cost efficient. Last year it was 95 degrees when we started to Trick or Treat. Wish I was kidding. I simply used items I already had in my closet and made my son’s dream come true.
Add in a bit of Han Solo’s famous quotes?
-Someone says, “I love you,” to you. You simply reply, “I know.”
-“You know sometimes I amaze even myself.”
-“Who YOU calling scruffy looking???”
-“There is no mystical energy field that controls my destiny.”
There you go friends, an easy way to wear what you already have for an epic Halloween Costume!
Hope you have a wonderful and safe Halloween!

Training a puppy is a feat in itself. Today we are sharing helpful hints that will make training your brand new dog just that much easier. From potty-training, to dog treats, and where your dog should sleep-there is a BIG learning curve when introducing a new dog to the family.
Our Chocolate Lab- Indiana
Three weeks ago the stars aligned and we found a darling puppy that a farmer didn’t want to keep. He kept saying that she was too lazy, liked to sleep all the time, and preferred cuddling to work. JACKPOT.
So rather than her ‘working’ on a ranch we took her home and immediately became smitten with her sweet little mug. She loves long walks at night, cuddling up on the couch, and greeting us each morning. If you are wondering about her name-she is named after Indiana Jones…who took his name after his beloved dog-Indiana. The kids call her Indy and truly love her. Definitely warms my heart that they look after her and care about her feelings.
To those that say a dog- is a dog-is a dog. Sure. But to us she is family.
Emma Marie takes up most of her days with playing fetch, helping feed Indy, and trying to fit into any nook and cranny possible to cuddle the dog. When Emma is awake and the dog is sleeping you can be sure to find them like this.
Raymond likes to love a little bit from afar when it comes to animals, but goodness gracious when Indiana cuddles up next to him, do his eyes glow with pride. Plus, he makes sure to play fetch with her until she decides she is too tired.
Our first training feat was making sure she was potty trained. Sure those mats you lie down and train your dog to go on are dandy and fine-BUT they are still going to the bathroom INSIDE. Something we surely did not want to happen. By the way, WHO puts white carpet in the dining room?!? Kills me. Alas, our downstairs surely needed new flooring before we got a puppy. Now I am sure of it! We took her outside and told her to go potty every hour during the first few days at home. As soon as she goes we act like it’s the coolest thing since sliced bread.
Because it is. She went outside instead of inside. Winning.
After three days we realized we have a four a day dog. Four times a day she needs to really go. And sure enough she learned to go and sit by the back door. Dogs thrive on positive reinforcement. Seriously, google Pavlovs Dog Theory. Positive reinforcement til the day I die.
She was officially potty-trained in three glorious days.
Tricks & Obedience
With two kids, three and under we knew we needed to teach her what she can and can’t touch in the house. First day in we removed all of the things on the shelves that would’ve been devastating to have puppy teeth marks in downstairs. Wicker baskets, antiques, and favorite frames. Next we instilled a rule with the kids that all toys were to be up and off the floor. Toy confusion with a new puppy is real.
We bought Indiana four toys: two kong balls-one large-one small, kong rope(for tug of war), and a kong teether. The kids helped pick out each one and with owning dogs in the past I knew that these toys were an investment that would last.
Those were the only toys allowed to touch the ground.
Three weeks in and Indiana knows she isn’t supposed to touch anything else. We are still working on the follow-through with NOT touching anything else. But she is three months old and it is a work in progress.
Learning to Sit
At each meal we quickly taught her to SIT before she would receive her food. Now she knows how to sit, lay down, and fetch properly. Food is definitely a factor with learning faster… and now that we have introduced dog treats… let’s just say she is the smartest puppy on the block.
I picked up a PEDIGREE® DENTASTIX® Varity Pack on our weekly trip to Sam’s Club! Indiana is THRILLED at the new addition after we work on learning a new skill and I am so happy that they help out her teeth. Every little bit helps when it comes to dog teeth. Yuck. Plus, soon enough she will be ready for the BIG BAGS of PEDIGREE® Adult Dry Dog Food– definitely a healthy option for when she reaches adulthood.
PEDIGREE® PET MONTH
At Sam’s Club when you purchase PEDIGREE® products at Sam’s Club during the month of October, the PEDIGREE® brand will donate a bowl of food to a dog in need.
PLUS you can upload a photo of the dog you love to Instagram or Twitter using the hashtag #LaterShelter for a chance to be featured on SamsClub.com. The PEDIGREE® brand will donate a bowl of food for every upload!
Remember, positive reinforcement is your friend.
Our house rules were clearly laid out to all members of the family. Indiana was to not chew on anything except for her toys. She is crate trained(thank you farmer) and sleeps soundly in our laundry room at night. I grew up with dogs on the couch and am definitely fond of the extra cuddles at night.
BUT someone that is even MORE fond of the cuddles?
Her love for Indiana runs deep.
Beyond thankful that this little dog happened to just literally jump into our lives a mere three weeks ago. We are still working on her pulling on the leash-but I am sure a treat or two could help with that learning curve.

DIY Romantic- Count Dracula Coupons
Throughout the past four years as parents to two kids close in age -I’ve found that we need to make time for our relationship. As the school season has begun(our very first), we are exponentially busier with an active family of four. I want my husband to feel special and loved taking the time with making homemade coupons.
Check out the process and grab yourself a copy so you can send a little love to that someone special!
DRIVING ME BATTY
I used card-stock and traced (and traced) out bats that would work as the surface of the coupon. Through some trial and error I was able to create the right size that I needed to make EIGHT romantic coupons.
After cutting out the card-stock creation, I traced the bat onto a sheet of printer paper.
I scanned the paper into my printer and opened up the PDF into Photoshop. Thankfully Photoshop helped me darken my “blue” bats and I added on a spooky text.
After I watermarked the printable, I uploaded it to my blog and voila! FREE PRINTABLE!

Will Carve For Seeds
Carving Pumpkins is a family tradition that I have willingly subjected my little family to for years. Each year there is one member or two that CAN’T stand the slimy pumpkin gunk BUT alas I trudge on.
We are making family memories!
Painting Pumpkins: Fall Family Tradition
Raymond painted a pumpkin on his first Halloween and we have carried on the tradition of painting the pumpkins before carving them. We usually paint them a week before carving so we can enjoy the aura of brilliance said finger painting emits-PLUS after that clean-up I want to enjoy a few days of non-slimy bliss.
A week passed after two little skeletons painted their little hearts out. And now WE CARVE. Raymond is giving his best impression of a pirate. I am Barbosa and he is Jack Sparrow typically throughout the day. My one pirate joke continues to exceed expectations and I easily get laughs each time. I’m killing it at motherhood. <slow clap>
Emma Marie cheered loudly as we told them we were carving our painted pumpkins. She then re-enacted her favorite dinosaur and charged around the room pretending to be a ferocious Tyrannosaurus Rex. She legitimately sounds terrifying. If you closed your eyes you would get chills down your spine.
I am beyond thankful she can’t get through the tiny-human-proofing we’ve done as she would most assuredly lose her life if she uttered that awfully, excruciatingly realistic monster noise next to my bed.
Fight or Flight?
I always fight. It’s a reflex that many, many in the family have lost to.
Carving the Top of the Pumpkin
My husband hates, no-LOATHES the feeling of slimy pumpkins. He will carve the top and then vacuum up the mess after we are done. He watched from a careful distance on a bar stool this year.
Emma Marie definitely left her shyness from last year behind! She gladly helped me load up on seeds in our buckets to roast in the afternoon.
Raymond was ALL about the raw pumpkin. I mean literally ALL about the pumpkin. Definitely need to figure out a way to get more pumpkin into his life. He can’t have pumpkin pie(food allergies) but perhaps there is another option?
WILL CARVE FOR SEEDS
Will eat raw seeds… who are we kidding?
A trip to Costco rendered another set of pumpkins-these MUCH larger than the pie pumpkins we grabbed at Vertuccio Farms this Fall. So there will definitely be more seeds in our future!
One of my most favorite parts of Fall is visiting farms and fishing for pumpkin seeds. Yep and sweaters! Still 90 degrees here three weeks into October. Bring on the sweaters!
Another item checked off the Fall Bucket List(Free Printable)!
